About us


I bought Ivy Cottage as a holiday home in 2010 because I had fallen for the charms of the North York Moors and for the market town of town of Helmsley. The cottage is ideally situated in a quiet location within five minutes’ walk of the bustling town centre and equally close to the fantastic unspoilt countryside of the North York Moors.

We now share the cottage with like-minded guests who, like us, appreciate everything that Ivy Cottage and the area has to offer.

We love to escape to Helmsley from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, to relax in the snug cottage and to stroll round the town, have a coffee and cake, browse in the shops, and eat and drink in the pubs and restaurants . We also really enjoy exploring the countryside , on foot , by car and on the NYM heritage railway from Pickering to Whitby, and visiting stately homes such as Nunnington Hall and Castle Howard, and visiting the beautiful Yorkshire coast from the resorts of Scarborough and Whitby to the smugglers retreat at Robin Hood’s Bay and the bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs.

We have been visiting Helmsley, from our home in Nottinghamshire, for well over ten years and we have learnt a lot about the area. So please feel free to contact us if you want any advice on trips or places to visit. If we can’t help, our housekeeper, Sarah, a local lady who lives close to Ivy Cottage, will no doubt be able to give you the benefit of her local knowledge when you arrive.
